How to Style a Hand-Knit Vest
A vest is the easiest thing in my closet to reach for. No sleeves to think about, no real commitment — just something warm over whatever you're already wearing. Here's how I actually wear mine.
Over a white t-shirt
The simplest version, and the one I come back to most. Any plain white tee underneath lets the vest do the talking — the color, the texture, the buttons. Works whether the vest is bright or neutral.
Over a long sleeve, with a little color underneath
Swap the tee for a white long sleeve and it reads a bit more finished — good for cooler days. I like adding one small pop of color, like a scarf, rather than changing the whole outfit.
Over black
A black turtleneck or long sleeve underneath is the quiet, easy option — it disappears and lets the vest's texture be the whole point. This is the version I wear when I don't want to think about it.
As a top, on its own
Buttoned up alone, a cropped vest works as a top — especially with something the vest can play against, like a pair of pants with actual pattern or color. Let the vest stay simple here and the rest of the outfit do the talking.
Color on color
If you're going to color block, commit — a bright vest over an equally bright, oversized tee reads intentional, not accidental. This is the combination for when you want to be seen.
Over a slip dress
My favorite unexpected pairing. A knit vest over a slip dress takes something dressy and grounds it — good for the in-between nights when it's not quite warm enough for just the dress, but a jacket feels like too much.
